Selection of a Cemetery Plot/Niche/Entombment Space

There are several factors to consider in the selection of a Cemetery plot, entombment or inurnment space.

1.     Cremation versus burial

          For cremations, the options are:

Ø      In-ground inurnment

o        Any gravesite within the Cemetery

o        John Paul Urn Garden

Ø      Above ground inurnment

o        Saint Mary Garden Columbarium

o        Private monument on plots

o        Private Mausoleum

For burial, the options are:

Ø      In-ground interment

o        Any gravesite within the Cemetery

Ø      Above ground entombment

o        Private Mausoleum

2.     Type of Memorial marker

Ø      Various styles of markers are permitted in different sections of the Cemetery

o        Within the Saint Mary Garden Columbarium, all engraving is done at the Cemetery direction and is done by our contracted vendor.

Ø      The three types of markers are:

o        Upright

o        Slant

o        Flush

Ø      You will be informed of the type of marker that can be placed on the grave at the time of purchase

3.     Number of graves/niches needed

Ø      Each single standard grave can accommodate a maximum of one casket and two cremains or three cremains

Ø      Each niche within the Saint Mary Garden Columbarium can hold two cremains

Ø      Each Urn Garden plot can accommodate one cremains

4.     Private Mausoleum Plots

Ø      The total footprint of the mausoleum may not exceed 50% of the lot, there is a required 3' setback on all sides of plot

Ø      Maximum height of the mausoleum is 8' (interior; allows for a maximum of 3 crypts stacked) - exterior height may not exceed 10'

Ø      The Cemetery Director must approve all plans and specifications of the mausoleum prior to construction and once construction is completed the landscaping plan must be reviewed and approved
